Memorial Presentation from Reunion 2009
MEMORIAL PRESENTATION
Inspirations...
Ran into some old friends,
I had not seen in years
Took turns telling stories, f
elt laughter tinged with tears
When smells and sounds of way back when m
agically appeared
And all of us were young again w
ithout a care or fear
And it was summertime…1965
The band was coming into view, and we were so alive
We hadn’t heard the call to war from Birmingham or Nam
We had access to the car and thought, “I drive…therefore, I am”
For it was summer then, our last big fling together
It was hot and humid, perfect New York weather
There were summer sounds, Cousin Brucie led the band
We spent the weekend at the beach ‘grooving in the sand’
It was summertime, we worked hard so we could play
All of our Septembers seemed so far away
When some would go to college and some stray close to home
A few who were so popular would somehow be alone
Some of us would marry and be husbands and wives
Some of us have children and some lay down their lives
Looking back from this side, they were moments of fine wine
Memories of what might be, carefully enshrined
It was summertime and we were so alive
Our best summer together
1965
